CSM to tell a ‘True Story’*

The UWI Catholic Students’ Movement (CSM) will present its Lenten production for 2019, ‘True Story’, on Saturday, March 30 at 7 p.m. and Sunday 31 at 5 p.m. The venue is the auditorium of the Learning Resource Centre, UWI St Augustine.

‘True Story’ is a moving and compelling story of a group of friends that deal with the emotional and mental aspects of university and school life.

The CSM is an umbrella organisation that consists of students from The University of the West Indies and creates a safe space for young Catholics on campus to share in faith, love and friendship.

Last year’s Lenten production was ‘Healer in the House’, written by Linus Salvador. Here is some feedback from members of the audience:

Samantha Mano, 18 –‘Healer in the House’ was truly an exceptional play, beautifully directed with a very talented cast and an amazing musical accompaniment. I definitely do not regret taking a break from exams for it.

Jeneille Nanan, 19– ‘Healer in the House’ is an experience I won’t forget. A beautiful set design and direction, an amazing band, and a wonderful cast that contributed to the perfect balance of humour and the portrayal of a message that really hits home. I can’t wait to see what they put together this year.

Sofia Mendoza, 23 – ‘Healer in the House’ was hilarious. How a group of actors could execute a script so eloquently? I don’t know but I commend them. It gave insight on the mental states of the sick and on the sacrificial love a relative had for another. It gave insight on the strength and togetherness of a family through trial and ‘bacchanal’. The play was relatable, tackling real-life family life and situations.

Tickets for ‘True Story’ are available at the UWI Catholic Chaplaincy, 2 Carmody Road, St Augustine and cost: $100 for the general public, $80 for a group of 5 and more, and $60 for tertiary students (with ID). For info, call 389-6810 or 713-8485.
