SVP youth conference for Holy Trinity*

Nine youths from the Our Lady of Lourdes Youth Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP), were commissioned at a Mass February 23 celebrated by the Holy Trinity cluster moderator, Fr Gregory Mc Lawrence CSSp.

The youths had been in formation for several months under the guidance of Kizzie Julien, National SSVP Youth Co-ordinator, spiritual adviser Br Ronald Abraham CSSp, and two members of the senior conference at Our Lady of Lourdes, Tacarigua.

Present were Rudolph Boneo, National President of the Society and representatives from various youth conferences including La Horquetta, Malabar and Diego Martin.

During a solemn ceremony, the youths made their pledge to “perform any act of charity…required to do in pursuance of the fulfilment of Christ’s Kingdom on earth” in front of the entire congregation.

Fr Mc Lawrence laid hands on each one of them and the congregation was invited to extend hands in blessing over the newly commissioned members.

After Mass, Boneo addressed the group, thanking them for their readiness to step forward to serve the Lord and their neighbours through the ministry of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

In his call to all youth, Boneo noted that while our Catholic youth and parents were readily armed with the “schoolwork-and-lessons” concern, it is remarkable how youth from other denominations manage to stay involved in their Church ministries while facing the same challenges. He ended saying that when youths open themselves up to serving the Lord, He in His faithfulness keeps them covered in all the affairs of their lives.

The ministry of the newly commissioned Our Lady of Lourdes Youth Conference will extend throughout the Holy Trinity cluster parishes of Tacarigua, Arouca, Surrey, Lopinot and Oropune Gardens. – Story and photo by Michelle Ganpat, Youth Liaison, Our Lady of Lourdes.
