St Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando (SJCSF) held a 5k race February 16 at Block 7 Playground, Palmiste. This year was the third running of this SJC Invitational 5k.

The race is organised by the staff, students and parents of SJCSF, and this year there were 520 registrants at the start line. Participants from several schools and three athletic clubs entered the competition this year.

The results were:
Male

  1. Kelvin Johnson: 17:14
  2. Lionel D’andrade: 17:33
  3. Kyle Young Lao: 17:43

Female

  1. Zinara Lesley: 22:20
  2. April Francis: 23:10
  3. Magda Lechik: 26:51

The top SJC student was Arie Bhagan, a Form 2 student, and the top teacher to finish the race was Vijay Mahabir.

The event is becoming more established, and the funds raised go toward improving facilities and infrastructure at SJCSF.

We would like to thank all the sponsors, service providers and parents who contributed in any way to offset the costs of the event. We also need to express our gratitude to teachers, students and parents who worked to ensure the day’s activities ran smoothly.

Most importantly, we must thank each participant who turned up to make this 5K a success, and we look forward to having you all back in February 2020.—Josie-Ann Carrington-Greene, Vice President of the Parents of SJCSF Executive.
