DOMINICA
In its quest to develop the religious tourism niche market, the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and a group of devoted Catholics led by Dominica-born, Fr Franklyn Cuffy CssR will launch its pilot Easter pilgrimage during Holy Week of April 17–22.
Themed Unleashing the Power of United Prayers, people from across the Caribbean are invited to the Easter Nature pilgrimage in Dominica.
A release from DDA, dated January 28, stated that the Sacred Scriptures will be used to guide the pilgrims on their way to the following: walking in the footsteps of Christ to the Cross on Morne Bruce, Good Friday; the River Jordan experience at the Fresh Water Lake; healing of the Sulphur Springs, Soufriere; meeting of the First Cardinal of the Caribbean and Latin America; Kalinago water rituals; visiting of the Dominica national shrine and other historical churches; table fellowship with an agape meal.
The faith journey has been endorsed by Bishop Gabriel Malzaire of Roseau, Dominica. Package price costs US$415 per person, inclusive of tours and meals.
With the DDA playing an instrumental part in the planning of the event, support has been given to the organising committee in several areas to include the sourcing of suitable accommodation island wide, development of an appropriate itinerary and package development.
The event is timely as the DDA is seeking to diversify the tourism product to offer activities which will provide visitors with spiritual and cultural experiences. “DDA believes that the cultural wealth of the island facilitates the development of this niche,” the release said.
