Abbot John Pereira OSB is now recuperating “nicely” at the Monastery of Sant’Anselmo in Rome as his surgery for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), Thursday, January 24 was conducted.

Abbot Pereira told Catholic News that the surgeon Dr Massimo Zaccagnini was “very pleased” with the outcome of the operation. In a WhatsApp voice note circulating, Dr Zaccagnini is heard saying “John is very good; the operation was very, very good….”

Abbot Pereira mentioned that Dr Zaccagnini is regularly in touch with him via WhatsApp and also with his sister in Trinidad, Nadine messages. “Nadine was responsible for relaying the relevant portion of the messages to Br Paschal Jordan OSB for the information of the Brothers at the Mount and also to my immediate blood brothers and sisters for the knowledge of the family,” he said.

Abbot Pereira said that Dr Zaccagnini has advised him to practise the virtue of patience with the healing process. “All is well so far and I am hoping to return to the Mount once the hospital gives me the green light to travel. Thanks for the prayers,” he said.
