The Mary Care Centre (MCC), located at 43 Gallus Street, Woodbrook, was founded during the leadership of Archbishop Anthony Pantin. Its objective is to support pregnant teenagers, teenage mothers and their children.
The Centre provides a safe and secure environment for first-time mothers between the ages of 12 and 17; teaches the young women to care for themselves and their newborns as well as skills to enable the young women to be employable and self-sufficient.
The MCC collaborates with the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, the Children’s Authority and The Child Welfare League of Trinidad and Tobago in carrying its duties and provides a range of services which includes the following:
* Day care services;
* Individual and group counselling;
* Skills training, literacy training, and academic courses;
* Health and nutrition information, parenting courses, and personal development training.
The Centre also employs a full-time caregiver who is mandated to report on all issues that may arise at the Centre and provide feedback with regard to the residents.
On June 13 the MCC celebrated seven years of service to the community with a Thanksgiving Mass to commemorate the event and recognise those who have supported the Centre since its inception and beyond.
Archbishop Jason Gordon was the chief celebrant at the Mass and he urged those affiliated with the Centre to continue to strive to make their work a success.
Former residents gave inspiring talks about their time at the Centre, the role models that helped them along the way and where they are presently. The celebration ended with lunch for all attendees.
On October 27, Quota International presented the MCC with two garden benches for use in their courtyard area, and on December 5 the MCC Committee hosted a Christmas breakfast for occupants and committee members.
The Committee thanks its supporters/angels and wishes everyone a Blessed Christmas and a bright and prosperous 2019. – MCC
