With Christmas a little over a week away, it’s important to remember the reason for the season, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
As the days go by, we are all preoccupied with shopping and decorating. This Christmas, try integrating the theme of Christmas colours when picking out gifts and adding a pop of colour to your décor.
Some popular colours used around Christmas time are green, red, gold and purple. Try these tips integrating each colour to brighten the season:
Green—Evergreen plants, such as mistletoe and holly, have been used in many traditions around Christmas time. For a pop of green in your homes or as a gift, Italian Cypress, Arborvitae (Thuja) and Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla) are perfect plants for these.
Red—Apart from poinsettias, there are many other beautiful red flowering plants that give you the warmth of the season. Try red pentas, red dianthus and even red roses as centrepieces for your holiday tables.
Gold—Paired with red, gold is a colour of warmth. Gold was one of the presents brought to the Baby Jesus as a gift by one of the wise men. It also symbolises the color of the bright star that the wise men followed.
Purple—This is the primary colour of Advent. Purple/ violet symbolises the preparation for the coming of Jesus into the world. For a splash of purple, purple petunias and purple orchids will definitely be a wonderful touch.
As we come to the end of another year and prepare for the beginning of a new year, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous 2019. May God shine his blessings upon you and your loved ones.
