Fr Donald Chambers of the Archdiocese of Kingston, Jamaica, the newly appointed General Secretary of the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) is looking forward to the challenges ahead.
“It is a tremendous responsibility but I look forward to serving the bishops as they embark on building the Kingdom of God, and nurturing the Catholic Church as a sacrament of God’s transforming presence in the Caribbean”, said Fr Chambers at a November 21 press conference at Archbishop’s House, Port of Spain where he was introduced to Catholic media.
Fr Chambers thanked the AEC bishops, his parents and former parishioners for their support. He replaces Fr John Persaud of the Diocese of Georgetown, Guyana, who served a term of four years.
A message from the AEC thanked Fr Persaud “for his generosity of spirit, service and commitment during his time here” at the Trinidad-based AEC Secretariat. It continued “Your kindness, perseverance and presence was and will always be a gift to us.” The message ended, “May God bless you with his graces as you continue on your new endeavours.”
