Confirmation candidates learn about being mindful

On Saturday, November 17 the confirmation class of the Santa Cruz Cluster had a session on the topic of ‘Mindful Communication’ hosted by the Family Life Unit (FLU) of Holy Cross, Santa Cruz.

This was presented by Denyse Johnson, a development communication consultant and parishioner at Holy Cross and member of the FLU.

The dictionary states that mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing and not being reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

She had the class engaged from the beginning. They explored what, how, why and when we communicate, as well as the importance of non-verbal communication and how messages can be sent unintentionally.

The main message of this session was the importance of being fully engaged in the moment when communicating with others and really listening so that responses are considered and not simply reactive. – FLU
