Sacred Heart Girls’ RC repeats in Junior Parang

Sacred Heart Girls’ RC, the defending champion of the Primary Schools’ Junior Parang Competition, retained the title at this year’s competition, held last Sunday at the Preysal Secondary School. Their lead singer Amerie Reyes also took home the title of Best Female lead singer.

Vance River Primary and Morvant Anglican placed second and third respectively. Other Catholic primary schools awarded in special categories were: seventh-placed Todds Road RC, Best Box Bass, Josiah David and La Seiva RC (17th), Best Cuatro, Enrique Mendez.

In the secondary schools’ category, the combined choir of Queen’s Royal College and Bishop Anstey High School captured first place. With 179 points, Queen’s Royal College also won Best Male Lead, Shane John. Second placed St Mary’s College also won Best Maracas, Michael Jagdeo; Best Box Bass, Ethan Romany; and Original Composition. Third place went to Bishop Anstey Trinity College East with a prize for Best Cuatro, Johann Castillo.

In the 15 secondary schools that participated, prizes were also awarded to: Tableland Secondary School (4), Best Dressed Group; Holy Name Convent POS (5), Best Female Lead, Xaviella Millette; St Joseph’s Convent, St Joseph (6), Best Presentation; Trinity College, Moka (8), Best Cuatro, Shakeem Boisselle; and St George’s College (11), Best Lead Instrument. – KJ
