Abbot John Pereira OSB told Catholic News that he is getting “stronger” and feeling better each day since his hospitalisation for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the left leg. Abbot Pereira is staying at the Fatebenefratelli Hospital on Tiber Island, Rome, since September 13.

The Abbot, in a WhatsApp chat October 5 said, “I have started to do some walking around the Sant’ Anselmo environs and feeling better as a result.” Abbot Pereira said that the Abbot Primate—Abbot Gregory Polan OSB, his Prior and all the brothers in the monastery have accepted him with “open hearts and arms”.

“They have all been very supportive, welcoming and caring. I feel truly loved by the brethren here and I am sure that this love that I feel is contributing to the healing process.”

The Abbot Primate and the Guest Master—a certified nurse, visited the Abbot in his room that morning. They had a very “warm” encounter, he said. – KJ
