Abbot John Pereira OSB is now recuperating at the Fatebenefratelli Hospital on Tiber Island, Rome after he collapsed during the Benedictine Congregation of the Annunciation General Chapter assembly, in Subiaco, Italy. Abbot Pereira was hospitalised September 13 for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the left leg.
Abbot Pereira, along with Br Richard Diaz OSB were expected to return home September 16. The Abbot, however is unable to until doctor’s clearance.
Abbot Pereira’s brother, Msgr Christian Pereira, parish priest of St Benedict’s, La Romaine said that siblings Nadine and Felix Pereira arrived in Rome last Monday (September 17). He shared that they were “happy” with the treatment he’s receiving, its facilities and the medical expertise.
The social media friendly priest, known for his accessibility and many contributions to Catholic News, was also reported to be restricted of cell phone use.- KJ
