His Excellency Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, Apostolic Nuncio for the Antilles Episcopal Conference presented his letters of Credence to Governor-General of Barbados Dame Sandra Mason at her Government House residence Wednesday, August 22. His Excellency is now accredited as Ambassador to Barbados. He was accompanied by Archbishop of Port of Spain and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Bridgetown, Charles Jason Gordon.

The Catholic Diocese of Bridgetown, in a release, said the Nuncio also made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr Jerome Walcott.

“He was officially introduced to the Catholic community at a Pontifical High Mass held at St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in the evening of Wednesday 22nd August,” the release said.

Her Excellency and Senator Walcott were in attendance. The Apostolic Nuncio received a warm welcome from local Catholics who wished him well on his tenure of service to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgetown. “In response he has indicated that he was happy to be of service and promised to be involved in the mission of the Church here in Barbados.”
