Nuncio visits Mount*

His Excellency Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, his chauffeur and Srs Maria del Refugio and Adolphina of the Guadalupian Handmaids of Christ the Priest paid a courtesy call on Abbot John Pereira OSB at the Abbey Church, Mt St Benedict last Sunday (August 19).

The visit was an opportunity for Archbishop Nwachukwu to meet the Benedictine monks, altar servers and worshippers at the Mount. The archbishop and his entourage arrived 8 a.m. in preparation for Holy Mass at 8.30. Archbishop Nwachukwu was the main celebrant.

Srs Maria and Adolphina joined the procession while the chauffeur sat in with the monastic choir. Abbot Pereira told Catholic News last Tuesday that the archbishop’s homily was on Jesus as the living bread of life.

Mass was followed by a visit to the library where Archbishop Nwachukwu took a brief tour of the compound. The monks had another opportunity for friendly encounter with the visitors during light refreshments in the monastic refectory.

At around 11.15 a.m. the archbishop and his entourage were taken within the cloister to the common room, where a viewing of a centenary video took place. Then midday prayer in the church followed by lunch in the monastic refectory.

Farewell greetings were exchanged and the archbishop and his entourage departed at 1 p.m.
