Day of prayer, march for peace

ST LUCIA

Hundreds of St Lucians, young and old from all denominations will participate in the second annual Day of Prayer, Fasting and March for Peace and Non-Violence hosted by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Castries, on Wednesday (August 1).

The aims of the event are to express the need for greater solidarity among Christians, and building a culture of non-violence in St Lucia; highlight the importance of prayer and fasting for the security, welfare and good of the nation; plant the seed of peace in the hearts of all St Lucians as a means of overcoming violence at every level of society; pray and fast for healing and reconciliation where there is hurt, hate, anger, brokenness and the need for forgiveness; and promote respect for life and human dignity.

The Archdiocese of Castries in a Facebook post, June 28, encouraged Church groups to pray and use various means of prayer e.g. Adoration, the rosary, walks, prayer intentions etc, in preparation for the event.

“St Lucia needs you! Come let us Pray, Fast and March for our country! Bring along the entire family. United in faith, prayer and solidarity, peace can be restored to our nation,” the microblog stated.

The day’s programme begins with 7 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Archbishop Robert Rivas as main celebrant. St Lucians will then assemble at 10 a.m. near Vieux Fort Town Hall for prayer, praise, sharing and preparation for the march at 11 a.m.

Participants will process through the town of Vieux Fort with banners and placards displaying messages of peace and encouragement.
