‘Happy Spouse, Happy House’

Couples dance to Ed Sheeran’s song.

We all know the old adage “happy wife, happy life”, a frequent toast at weddings.  The Family Life Unit of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish however took a different spin to this. Together with the Couples for Christ Ministry, a Young Couples Programme, ‘Happy Spouse, Happy House’, was started with the view of building a foundation for lasting marriage.

The first session, held on June 10, started with a lively shoe game which allowed the couples to think hard on what they knew about their spouse and themselves.  The session continued with a mini talk which gave a synopsis of what the Young Couples Programme would entail and the couples present were invited to share their thoughts on this new venture.

Some couples were excited at having this avenue and looked forward to the growth in our parish. For others, it was a time to spend together without any distractions.

The couples were then given time to sit with each other and spend time conversing. This led to the couples, service team included, dancing to Ed Sheeran’s song ‘Perfect’. Though no relationship is perfect, it was a few minutes of forgetting the world, holding your partner and thanking God for their love.

It was a great start to building the church of the home, and with God at the centre, we know the foundation would be unbreakable.

The Young Couples Programme is open to all couples married up to 15 years. The next session is scheduled for Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, Maraval. – Kalifa Constantine
