Three pupils of the Nelson Street Boys’ RC School received support for their education from the Lance Aaron Lashley Memorial High School Scholarship.

They are Standard Five pupils Emmanuel Hamilton, Marcelle Vonsee, and Antonio Francois.

The ceremony took place June 29 at the National Library and Information System of Trinidad and Tobago (NALIS).  The scholarships named in honour of the late retired Detective Inspector Lashley are intended to help at-risk males from East Port of Spain improve their lives.

A press release on the event stated, “Inspector Lance believed that educational opportunity was key to steering at-risk males away from crime. Thus Dr Lynette M Lashley and family established the Lance Aaron Lashley Memorial High School Scholarship, for two students with academic potential, and financial need, who will be entering high school.”

The boys were chosen for assistance after submitting an essay on why they deserved to receive the scholarship. Hamilton and Francois, got a laptop and $2,500 to help purchase uniforms, texts and school supplies while Vonsee received a $1,200 gift voucher.

Principal Frances Gervais-Heath said the award of scholarships from the Lashley family will be ongoing.
