Caribbean Magnificat welcomes international co-ordinator

Donna Ross

Magnificat—A Ministry to Catholic Women, will welcome its newly appointed International Co-ordinator, Donna Ross to the Caribbean later this week.

Donna will first visit the Barbados Chapter for their 30th anniversary. She will then travel to Trinidad where the first Caribbean chapter was formed in Arima by Babsie Bleasdell (deceased) 35 years ago.

The Port of Spain Chapter will host Ross at the Magnificat Meal on Sunday, May 6, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 2–6 p.m. Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency, Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu will address attendees on the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Internationally, Magnificat celebrates its 37th anniversary this year and has just over 100 chapters across the world, with nine chapters in the Caribbean.

The essence of Magnificat ministry is Mary’s visit to Elizabeth. Mary journeyed to her cousin Elizabeth, she witnessed by her life and then proclaimed the Good News: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my saviour.” Luke 1:46–55.

Magnificat calls all women to respond to the call to be missionary disciples. Its Mission is “to evangelise and to encourage Catholic women to grow in holiness through opening more fully to the power and the gifts of the Holy Spirit”. Magnificat helps in the formation of missionary disciples by helping Catholic women to open more to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord, and to impart the Holy Spirit to one another by their love, service, and sharing the good news of salvation.

Pope Francis’ recent Apostolic Exhortation, Gaudete et Exsultate on the call to holiness in today’s world states “I would stress too that the ‘genius of women’ is seen in feminine styles of holiness, which are an essential means of reflecting God’s holiness in this world…We are all called to be holy by living our lives with love and by bearing witness in everything we do, wherever we find ourselves…Be holy by living out your commitment with joy… Let the grace of your baptism bear fruit in the path of holiness.”

Magnificat Meal tickets can be purchased from the Collections, Port of Spain; Christian Book & Gift Shop, San Fernando, and the Dominican Bookshop, Diego Martin. For more info, contact Bernadette Patrick, Caribbean Regional Representative, 751-3575 or bernadette.patrick@gmail.com.
