Members of the Ministry of Consolation (MOC) at St Charles’ Borromeo Tunapuna, believe discussing the impact of the ‘father wound’ or conversely ‘the father blessing’ is timely.
The group will host a panel discussion entitled ‘FATHERING! How relevant is this to you today?’ at the parish centre on Tuesday, April 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The group’s co-ordinator, Barbara Wafe told the Catholic News, MOC was prompted to host the event in keeping with their objective to host at least two workshops per year related to a ‘dimension of loss’. With an increase in promiscuity, aggression, substance abuse and other deviant issues among males in societies that generate fatherlessness, Wafe said the group wanted to explore the topic.
An expected outcome of the discussion is a “deeper understanding of how the presence or absence of a functioning father figure could affect the lives and behaviour of children and young adults”. Wafe added, “Another outcome is insight into how individuals, families, friends, communities can take steps to heal wounds, to build bridges, to change behaviours for positive effect.”
Several guest speakers will be present, among them President of the Single Father’s Association, Rondell Feeles. There is no registration fee but contributions are welcomed.
