Mayo RC School celebrates St Joseph

Pupils and teachers on their way to St Joseph RC Church.

The principal and staff of the Mayo RC Primary celebrated the feast day of their patron saint, St Joseph on March 19.

The celebration began immediately after the morning assembly with a procession from the school to the nearby church. The warm sunlight embraced the pupils and staff as they processed piously along the route to the St Joseph RC Church.

As the police officers from the Gasparillo Police Station escorted the school body, a Standard Five pupil took the lead carrying a banner bearing an image of the saint. Prayers to St Joseph were said on the route and the hymn to St Joseph was sung at intervals.

On entry to the church, the Litany to St Joseph was recited by the pupils. This was followed by the consecration of children to St Joseph. Guest speaker Kelvin Dass spoke on St Joseph’s royal lineage being called, ‘the son of David’ and focused on St Joseph’s obedience in faith and his role as an exemplary father in family life.

As the programme ended in the church, pupils lustily sang ‘Hail St Joseph’ and waved their flags vigorously, signifying their gratitude for St Joseph’s special love and protection.

On their return to school, pupils viewed a short documentary on the life of St Joseph. Indeed, it was a spirit-filled and memorable day for pupils as the principal and staff continue to build and foster our Catholic identity. – Annette Lall Singh, Mayo RC Primary
