As the country prepared for Carnival 2018, the pupils, teachers and guidance officer Nicole Wyse, from the Carapichaima RC Primary got together and prepared students for the season, with ‘Safety’ as the main issue.
From the beginning of the school’s term, the issue of safety at Carnival time was the focus. Wyse visited all classes engaging pupils in conversation on the ‘Carnival Safety Tips/Rules’ poster. Classes were assisted by their teachers to create posters which were displayed throughout the school.
This was not just an awareness activity but one which gave students a sense of direction and expected behaviour at Carnival and life in general.
On Carnival Thursday (February 8) at the school’s Carnival activity these posters were highlighted along with the display of traditional ‘mas’ characters by the junior department, and a Soca lip-sync competition won by Tamika Marchan of the Standard Five Department. – Rosemarie Siewnarine, teacher
