Tobago Catholic steelband in national finals

Alpha Pan Pioneers is in the National Panorama finals. Manager Mathias MarFan writes:

Making it to the semi-finals of the National Panorama small band category last year was cause for celebration, especially since it was the first time that Alpha Pan Pioneers of St Joseph’s parish, Scarborough, Tobago took part in a competition of such magnitude. Unfortunately then we were just shy of one point in order to advance to the 2017 finals.

This year is promising so far; we have hurdled the semi-finals and have qualified for the finals of the small band category to be held at Skinner’s Park on Thursday.

When asked during a radio interview, “How come the Church is getting involved in Carnival?” band arranger, Marina MarFan explained that she views Panorama as not only our biggest cultural event but also a music competition; and it’s an opportunity for her to teach music via our national instrument. She also reiterated that music helps in the holistic development of individuals.

Our rendition ‘Prophet of Pan’ may be saying more to us than we know—is this our year? Well prophecy or not, we continue to give God glory through our talents for His gift of music. So, come on out and support the Church’s first and only Catholic steel band to enter Panorama—Alpha Pan Pioneers—as we celebrate another year of ‘Pan sweet Pan’ in Panorama 2018. See you there!
