Fruitful six years – Archbishop Gordon*

BARBADOS

Archbishop Jason Gordon of Port of Spain, currently Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Bridgetown said that 2018 will be “a challenging one”, a year when people may face personal and economic hard times.

He exhorted the faithful that while they may have to make some personal sacrifices, remember the vulnerable persons in society and “see the face of God in each of them and help them where you can,” the archbishop said in his Christmas message.

The archbishop’s message was featured in a Christmas magazine Rejoice Unto Us a Child is Born uploaded on the diocesan blog, catholicbb.org. In it, Archbishop Gordon noted that 2018 is also an election year when the Barbados population will select a Government to lead the nation for a five-year term.

He prayed that citizens put their faith in God and allow Him to be their guide.
Excerpts of the message mentioned gratitude to God, the Catholic Church and the people of Barbados for giving the newly installed Archbishop the challenge and fulfilling opportunity to minister and love the people of Barbados.

“My experience over the past six years has been most enriching. I leave with mixed feelings– I have been able to journey with all of you and just as we are poised to move forward to become the Church, the people and nation God is calling us to be, God has asked me to return to Trinidad and Tobago as the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain,” he said.

However, Archbishop Gordon said that ministering in Barbados has been “most fruitful” and he goes to his next assignment “a richer person” because of the experiences of the past six years.
