Police in Haiti are searching for the gunmen who shot and killed Fr Joseph Simoly Thursday, December, 21 during an apparent robbery.
The funeral service took place Saturday, December 30 at the Cathedral of Port-au-Prince. The exhibition of his remains was held at the Archbishop’s Chapel in Port-au-Prince.
Fr Simoly, 54, was laid to rest at the Hinche Cathedral (capital of the Central Plateau Department, northeast of the capital).
Caribbean Broadcasting Company (CBC) a public radio and television broadcaster, located in Barbados reported that Fr Simoly had just completed a transaction in a bank when he was targeted by the gunmen on his way home.
“The authorities said the gunmen on a motorcycle pumped several bullets into Fr Simoly as they tried to rob him. They said he was rushed to the Haitian Community Hospital but died while receiving treatment.”
Fr Simoly, known for his public speaking, was one of the celebrants of the novena of the Immaculate Conception, held in Port-au-Prince from November 30 to December 8.
