Get inspected

Vehicle inspections as required by law are good for road safety. Private vehicles must be inspected after five years and commercial vehicles must be inspected every year.

Inspections are done at Licensing Offices or at a private garage approved by the Government. It is the engineering aspect of road safety to check the vehicle for smooth tires, faulty brakes, no horn, lights, suspension and other defects on the vehicle.

Many drivers do not pay attention to vehicle inspection which is critical to road safety. The process is simple: all you have to do is to supply the certified copy of your vehicle to the inspector to begin the process.

In the 2017/2018 budget speech, the Minister of Finance announced an increase on inspection fees, which are now on hold. The cost to inspect your vehicle remains at $162 for the year.

Accidents can be caused by defective vehicles. For example, imagine yourself driving on a wet road with smooth tires or with faulty brakes which can bring consequences to you and other road users.

The Trinidad and Tobago Road Safety Council is urging all drivers to get their vehicles inspected to help save lives. If caught without an inspection certificate you can be fined by a Court of Law.
