Corpus Christi College excels in NSSEC

National Secondary School Entrepreneurship Competition (NSSEC) is a world-class entrepreneurship simulation competition consisting of 64 schools. The simulation has been used by hundreds of top companies, universities and schools around the world with overwhelming success.

Students who participated in the competition were trained in all areas of business, thus providing a realistic environment where students practised strategic planning and developed their entrepreneurial skills.

They created and operated a simulated business and were introduced to the concepts of creating a new company, including decision-making, responsibility and accountability in the areas of Marketing, Human Resource, Finance, Accounting, and Manufacturing while functioning in a dynamic competitive environment.

NSSEC was developed and administered by Stone Brothers Limited, a firm specialising in research, education and training. The Stone Brothers’ initiative was supported and sponsored by First Citizens Bank, Massy Foundation, UWI Arthur Lok Jack GSB, Shell Trinidad and PwC.

The competition was held from September to November, and students of Forms 4–6 were eligible to participate in teams of five, with one teacher acting as a guide. The opening ceremony was held September 19 at the Central Bank Auditorium.

Schools were placed in eight divisions representing each major sponsor. Corpus Christi College of Occupational Education and Training was selected to be part of the First Citizens division, competing against Chaguanas North Secondary, International School of Port of Spain, Mayaro Secondary, Woodbrook Secondary, El Dorado East Secondary, Miracle Ministries, and Holy Faith Convent, Couva.

Corpus Christi College students, with their company ‘Future Technologies’, prevailed in their division, winning with 316.645 cumulative game performance. Their closest rivals, El Dorado East Secondary, obtained 4.887 cumulative games performance.

The competition came to an end with the Closing and Presentation of Winners’ ceremony on November 7 at the Central Bank Auditorium. The Corpus Christi College Team of Form 4 students Rhondelle Arthur, Anjelic Alexander, Kerdiesha Belgrave, Jada Joseph and Arianna Shah, was guided by teacher David-Lee Skinner-Ballantyne. They performed in the top 95 per cent or better of worldwide simulation players. They emerged overall second place winners from a field of 64 schools.

The team was awarded 50 per cent scholarships from UWI Arthur Lok Jack GSB, movie vouchers from MovieTowne, coupons from More Vino, small hampers, medals and a trophy.
