The National Family Services Division of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services offers free counselling services for individuals, groups and families. This service provides preventive, remedial and developmental counselling for people who may be facing a crisis or dealing with psychological problems. Counselling usually spans several sessions, over a 45-minute to two-hour duration, but can at times require only a single session.
How to apply?
The Division has offices throughout T&T that offer counselling services. No documentation is required to apply for counselling but an identification card or number may be requested for completion of the case record.
You can make an appointment to speak with a counsellor by telephone. Walk-in clients are also accepted and the waiting period can vary depending on the number of persons accessing this service. Counselling services are provided between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on specific days, except public holidays, at the offices locations listed below.
At the Tobago location, counselling services are available on a daily basis, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4.15 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
