Parish priest Fr Matthew d’Hereaux and the Carapichaima parish communities held their annual cookout on the First Peoples’ holiday, October 13. Despite the heavy early-morning showers, parishioners journeyed north to the Archdiocese’s scenic St Catherine’s Estate, Valencia, for a day of sports, fun, socialising, relaxing and of course, lots of tasty food!

There were four categories in which the dishes were judged, each worth 20 points: Taste, Presentation, Appearance, Local appeal/aroma, and the surprise category, More-ish-ness (you want to return for more).

The parish’s Family Life Unit, Hospitality Team, Senior Choir and Men’s Ministry were among the participating groups. The four guest judges from Santa Rosa, Arima were overwhelmed by the variety and number of dishes cooked on the spot, but it was the dishes from the FLU that helped them win the friendly competition. While the adults cooked up the proverbial storm, the children and teens played football or ran races.
