A 50th wedding anniversary celebration for David and Vera Robinson was held at the Rosary Convent, St Ann’s on October 7. The couple renewed their vows in the presence of their five children, their families and friends.
Fifty years ago, they were married at Holy Cross Church, Santa Cruz. In the years since, as their family grew, so did their love for one another and their faith in Christ.
As noted by their son John in his remarks, David and Vera bestowed the gifts of integrity, tolerance, kindness and faith upon each of their children, providing a living example of how to integrate each of these values into one’s daily life.
Prayer and service to the faith have been a daily fixture of life in the Robinson home. Anyone who visited the household would be invited to join the evening prayer of the Rosary. David’s unwavering commitment to daily Mass has always meant that researching Mass schedules and nearby churches figured heavily in any travel plans.
For many years David and Vera have assisted in organising the annual harvest to raise money for the Catholic community at Maracas Bay, and have welcomed clergy to their home, offering both food and companionship.
By acts like these, and countless others known only to those that witnessed them, they have not only provided for their family a perfect example of how to live with integrity, tolerance, kindness and faith, but have built a relationship together which allowed them not to simply endure 50 years in each other’s company but to celebrate their time together. – Joanne and Raymond Groothuizen
