Team St Anthony’s captures Northern Vicariate title

Fr Gerard Bernier (fourth from right) with new champions, St Anthony’s

The Shepherd’s Cup – Northern Vicariate Qualifiers took place on Saturday, July 29 at Fatima College inner ground.

This year’s event had the largest participation to date, with eight parishes fielding teams, four of them debutantes: Assumption, Maraval; Cathedral/Sacred Heart; Our Lady of Lourdes, Maraval; Rosary/Gonzales; St Anthony’s, Petit Valley; St Finbar’s; St John the Evangelist, Diego Martin; and St Mary’s, Mucurapo.

We thank everyone who made the tournament possible. Special thanks to Vicar for the Northern Vicariate, Fr Gerard Bernier for his support and presence throughout the day, and Fr Gregory Augustine CSSp for use of the ground.

After a day of exciting end-to-end football action, St Anthony’s emerged as the new North champions. St John placed second, and Cathedral/Sacred Heart, third.

The final was keenly contested as the only way to separate the two teams was via penalty kick off. St Anthony’s and St John now move forward to represent the Vicariate at the National Shepherd’s Cup Finals on Saturday, August 26 at Woodbrook Youth Facility, Port of Spain.
