Cedros parish encouraged to help Venezuelans

Former parish priest Fr Robert Christo visited Icacos on July 2 and celebrated Mass at the Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Chapel. The new Vicar for Communications took the opportunity to urge parishioners to reach out to their brothers and sisters from neighbouring Venezuela whose presence in the Cedros community has grown in recent months due to hardship in their native country.

“We as church have a duty to be the presence of Christ for our sisters and brothers who are fleeing their country looking for a better life. We have a responsibility to help them, to evangelise them and ensure that they are not exploited for all the wrong reasons,” he said. Addressing the congregation, he remarked, “Church, you must play a role.”

Fr Christo then led the singing of Mahalia Jackson’s song ‘If I can help somebody’ to drive home the point that more must be done to help refugees. – Parishioner
