Bishop-elect Clyde Harvey will be ordained as the new Bishop of the Diocese of St George’s on July 29 at a Mass to be held at the Spice Basket auditorium in Beaulieu, St George’s at 11 a.m.

Following the June 23 announcement of the appointment, there has been much discussion over the choice of venue for the ordination with three options emerging: the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Grenada National Stadium, and the auditorium.

In a July 13 release, Fr Sean Doggett of the Ordination Preparation Committee said that the committee decided that the Spice Basket auditorium would be “the most appropriate venue for the Episcopal Ordination Ceremony”. It noted that the venue was chosen as “it is very important that it (the ordination Mass) include as many of the faithful as possible, in an environment in which the congregation can see, not as an audience, but as active participants in a liturgy that is both reverent and vibrant”.

Bishop-elect Harvey will take the Oath of Allegiance at the St Mary’s Parish Church on Thursday (July 27) at 6.30 p.m. in the presence of Bishop Gabriel Malzaire of Roseau, the new president of the Antilles Episcopal Conference. The Bishop-elect will address the media in a press conference in Norton Hall on Friday at 9 a.m.

He will celebrate Mass for the religious sisters and residents of the Missionaries of Charity home for the aged on Sunday. All are invited to the social gathering later that day, ‘Beach with the Bish’ at the Grand Anse Beach facility next to the Blessed Sacrament Church, Grand Anse from 2 p.m.

Pre-Ordination Prayer for Bishop-Elect

A special prayer has been done as Bishop-elect Clyde Harvey prepares for his episcopal ordination on July 29.

Gracious and loving God,

Thank you for choosing Clyde Martin Harvey to be the shepherd of your  people in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Fill him with your Spirit, enfold him in your love. May he always be Your LOVING KINDNESS  for our islands and for all our people. Give him an abundance of your wisdom so that he may look, listen and learn to see you  in every person and your Reign in every situation he meets. This we ask through JESUS  your Son and Son of Mary Immaculate.  AMEN.
