The funeral Mass for Bishop Vincent Darius will be held Wednesday, May 25 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St George’s, Grenada.

Funeral arrangements “to mourn the loss and celebrate the life and service of the late Bishop Vincent Darius OP” were finalised a few days ago, according to a press release from the Diocese. Arrangements were made by the diocese in collaboration with his family.

A mass celebrating the bishop’s life was held last Monday at St Matthew’s Church, Eastern Parkway, New York.
The body of Bishop Darius is expected to arrive at the Maurice Bishop International Airport on Wednesday, May 18 and will be taken to the funeral home. He will lie in state at the St Martin de Porres Church, Crochu, St Andrew on Monday, May 23. A prayer vigil will be held there later that day.
Bishop Darius will then lie in state at the Cathedral on Tuesday May 24.
There will be no tributes at the funeral, “in accordance with Bishop Darius’ expressed wish”, said the release. Following the Requim Mass, the entombment of the body will take place at the Crypt of the Cathedral, close to the tomb of Bishop Justin Field.

Condolence messages have been sent to Bishop Darius’ family, and “the priests, religious and laity” of the diocese by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, on behalf of Pope Francis; and Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, and the congregation’s secretary Archbishop Savio Hon Tai Fai.

Bishop Darius died April 26 in New York where he was seeking medical treatment. He served as a priest for 28 years and was installed as bishop in 2002. Vicar General Fr Clifton Harris OP has been appointed Diocesan Administrator.
