P ope Francis has sent his congratulations to Catholic News on its 125th anniversary. The message, sent through the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and addressed to the Archbishop, was received by the Apostolic Nunciature in April. Following is the full text:
To: The Most Reverend Joseph Everard Harris
Archbishop of Port of Spain
The Holy Father was pleased to be informed of the celebrations marking the one hundred and twenty fifth anniversary of the Archdiocesan Newspaper Catholic News, and he sends warm greetings to you and to all the staff members of this media service.
Conscious of the decades of influence which the Catholic News has had in the faith formation of the beloved people of Trinidad and Tobago, His Holiness encourages its staff to deepen their commitment to “constructive forms of communication that reject prejudice towards others and foster a culture of encounter, helping all of us to view the world around us with realism and trust” (Message for the 51st world Communications Day, 24 January, 2017).
Assuring all gathered for this important event of remembrance in his prayers, Pope Francis cordially imparts his Apostolic Blessings as a pledge of grace and joy in the Lord Jesus Christ.
