Bible-led and Spirit-fed – Sep 19

Bible-led and Spirit-fed – Sep 19
By Vernon Khelawan

Over the past several weeks we have had conversations about the use of simple, everyday objects and ideas which can be used in the process of evangelisation. Today we’ll deal with something more formal.

The Evangelisation Commission of the Archdiocese has organised a two-pronged programme as part of the continuing mission of our Church to evangelise. There’s the Preacher’s Workshop and a three-night mission – all happening in early October.

Conducting the workshop, carded for the weekend of October 2 and 3, will be Redemptorist priest Fr Maurice Nutt, an American priest, who has been described as Bible-fed and Spirit-led while at the same time being energetic and joyful. Venue for the two-day workshop is the parish hall of the St Charles R.C. Church in Tunapuna.

Following the weekend workshop Fr Nutt will preach missions at three churches – St Charles on Monday, October 4; St Dominic’s at Goodwood in Tobago on Tuesday, October 5 and St Mary’s, Mucurapo on Wednesday 6.

Experiencing a weekend that is chockfull of material and ideas that can serve to increase the pace and enrich the many efforts needed for the New Evangelisation in the Archdiocese, is as compelling as it is necessary. The Commission is therefore entreating participants to make the necessary arrangements in time.

It is also encouraging deacons, lay ministers and all who preach to join in what is forecast as a wonderful experience. Workshop coordinator Margaret Stewart-Williams warns that since space is limited, the need for early registration is clearly evident.

However, the success of this programme cannot be measured in just the numbers who attend, but rather in the sharing of the gained experience together with the widest possible dissemination of the information gleaned from the experience.

Properly articulated, the shared experience of participants will redound to the benefit not only to the parishes of the participants, but to the entire Archdiocese and therefore profoundly deepen the meaning of true evangelisation.
