Haiti Relief – 19 January 2010 |
The Roman Catholic Church in Trinidad and Tobago has widened its fund-raising net as it continues its drive to collect funds to assist in the rehabilitation of the suffering people of Haiti in the aftermath of the devastation suffered by that country following last week’s 7.0 earthquake.
In addition to the special collection already announced, the Church has set up an account at Republic Bank for donations to the Archdiocesan Fund for Haiti. The account number is #150252065401 and deposits can be made at any branch of Republic Bank. In immediate reaction, Archbishop Edward Gilbert last Wednesday authorised a special collection to be taken up in all churches in the archdiocese over the weekend of January 23-24. Persons desirous of sending cheques should make them payable to “The RC Archbishop of POS – Haiti Relief Fund. They should reach the Financial office of the archdiocese by February 01, 2010. Distribution of the funds will be handled by the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) through the Apostolic Nunciature. Archbishop Gilbert reminded all that “the archdiocese has been exceptionally generous during times of natural disaster in helping other nations of the Caribbean Church.” He implored Roman Catholics and others to “listen to and respond to the cry for help from our brothers and sisters in Haiti.” |
