We have all been shocked at pictures of the terrible natural disaster that has affected the people of Haiti. As I mentioned in my Pastoral Letter on Solidarity in 2007, “the Archdiocese has been exceptionally generous during times of natural disaster in helping other nations of the Caribbean Church to begin the recovery process.” Once again we must listen to and respond to the cry for help from our brothers and sisters in Haiti. In addition to the regular Sunday collections, I authorize a special collection for the people of Haiti on the weekend of January 23-24, 2010. Please be generous. All cheques should be made payable to ‘The R.C. Archbishop of POS’ Ref. Haiti Relief and must be sent to the Financial Office of the Archdiocese by February 1, 2010. For the purpose of security, the contribution of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain will be forwarded to the President of the Haitian Bishops’ Conference through the Apostolic Nunciature.
