|Vicariate sessions begin – Oct 25, 2009|
| Synod Implementation is pressing ahead with the training necessary to ensure that Pastoral Plans will be ready on time for the December 8 presentation to Archbishop Edward Gilbert at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.|
Following an executive training session at St Charles Parish Hall, Tunapuna three weeks ago, the vicariate sessions kicked off last weekend in Central Vicariate at the Max Murphy Centre on the grounds of the St Phillip & St James RC Church in Chaguanas.
Representatives from four out of the five parishes in the vicariate – Chaguanas, Carapichaima, Gran Couva and Tortuga – totalling 17 participants were at the three-hour session. There was no representative from Couva.
Facilitators Ruby Alleyne and Ramona Khan dealt specifically with the Appreciative Inquiry (AI) process SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations and Results), which claims to build on the strengths of organisations.
The template for creating the pastoral plan was presented and discussed with the participants. They were also shown two DVDs which highlighted the AI process, following which they were broken up into workshop teams for further deliberations and discussion on what they had just viewed.
It is expected that the participants will now pass along this knowledge to members of their various Parish Implementation Teams (PITs), including members of the Parish Pastoral Councils and heads and/or representatives of the Parish Finance Council, with the aim of pushing ahead towards completion of the pastoral plans.
Dates for three of the four remaining vicariates have been finalised. This weekend (October 24) the trainers would have been in the Southern Vicariate conducting the session at the La Romaine Parish Hall. Participants were expected from some 17 parishes.
The following weekend – Saturday, October 31 – will be the turn of the Suburban Vicariate and this session takes place at the St Charles Parish Hall, Tunapuna, while training for the Eastern Vicariate is scheduled for Saturday, November 7. The date for the Northern Vicariate session has not yet been confirmed.
