|Busy months in Diego Martin – Oct 18, 2009
| Synod Implementation seems to be going well in the Diego Martin parish of St John the Evangelist and its satellite Our Lady Mother of Mercy.
According to the Parish Implementation Team (PIT) coordinator Bernadette Burke, the months of October and November are expected to be quite busy since plans have been formulated to complete the Parish Census and launch a renewal of the Stewardship Appeal.
To facilitate the completion of planned courses and programmes, 13 leaders were trained in the Catholicism 201 course. A number of other leaders have been trained in the Theology of the Body course and there are still more people to be trained.
These programmes, which cater to the different parish ministries, were held in September in keeping with the theme Vocation to be Catholic. Participants were drawn from Youth Alpha at Confirmation level; the Alpha course for those who had not yet done so; Catholicism 201 for those who had already completed Alpha and a Life in Spirit Seminar.
Ms Burke disclosed that the “Vocation to be Catholic” theme will culminate with a week-long parish retreat and Reconciliation service in early December.
In other work done by the PIT, Ms Burke highlights the many meetings with the individual parish ministries to ascertain how best the mission of Synod could be accomplished “to serve the needs of the people of God”.
Direct results of these efforts saw the revitalisation of the Family Life Ministry, while a similar goal is being pursued with the Youth Ministry.
The work actually began as far back as March when a presentation of the three Pastoral Priorities of the Synod was made to all leaders of parish ministries, outlining the themes and goals as well as the Synod Implementation process.
Team Leaders for the Pastoral Priorities are:
New Evangelisation – Bernadette Burke & Clive Alexis;
Revitalising Catholic Culture and Identity – Camille Carasquero & Mario Diaz; and
Regenerating the Moral and Spiritual Values of our Society – Annette Alexander & Merle Borrell.
